Unity's Gardens are under construction on our 34-acre campus in
De Pere, Wisconsin. The planned gardens provide a tranquil view for those
at our hospice residence as well as give patients, families and the community a
special place to find solitude, peace and hope.

Donations to the Gardens help ensure underinsured and uninsured patients
receive access to quality end-of-life care.
We invite you to discover more about Unity's Gardens by reading the descriptions

Descriptions of
Planned Gardens and Features
|
Butterfly Garden |
In its metamorphosis from the common, colorless
caterpillar to the exquisite
winged creature of delicate beauty, the butterfly
has become a metaphor for transformation and hope.
Visitors
connect with this stor y in Unity's Butterfly
Garden. Shaped like a butterfly, visitors walk on
the "body"
―shaped by unique brick formations―
and exit via one of two paths, representing the
beautiful creature's antennae. Plants that attract
butterflies form lovely patterns on both sides of
the path in the "wings." |
| |
| Children's Garden |
| The Children's Garden will exemplify the
innocence of youth―wonder,
discovery and joy. A mini-plantation of dwarf fruit
trees will encircle this garden, bringing the
wonders of nature to a child's level. Themed
gardens of unique plants representing earth, water,
air and fire will surround a circular plaza with
Mother Earth at its center, represented by a granite
sphere that "floats" on water. Each themed garden
will invite learning through interactive features,
including magnetic sand, a water bell, moving air
sculptures and a floral kaleidoscope. |
| |
| Flower Cutting Garden |
The
Flower Cutting Garden is designed to bring the
gardens inside to patients in the Jack and Engrid
Meng Residence. This garden is planted with flowers
that bloom in rotation all season long and enables
Unity volunteers to gather and create bouquets for
the individual patient rooms and common areas of the
Residence. The Flower Cutting Garden truly
represents the impact flowers have on happiness. |
| |
| Meditation Garden |
|
The
Meditation Garden will be an area for thought,
reflection and rest. Three pergolas will provide
shaded space, while surrounding benches will enable
rest under the sun's rays. A dry river bed will
allow for visitors to walk the stepping stones, with
sounds of the fountain in the Meadow Pond echoing in
the background. At focus will be a calming art
sculpture. |
 |
| |
|
Rose Garden |
The rose has long been the symbol of love. The
Rose Garden will feature a wide variety of shrub
roses planted to bloom all season long. Each rose,
in varied color and size, will provide its unique
message―beauty, courage,
respect, desire―decipherable
individually by those in the garden's presence.
Crushed limestone walkways, rows of evergreen trees
and shrubs, and a plant pallet including Russian
sage, peony, catmint and veronica will provide the
feel of an old English garden. |
| |
| Sensory Garden |
|
The Sensory Garden will offer a special opportunity
for people to enjoy the gardens from elevated beds
and will feature plants that appeal to the senses of
touch, sound, sight and smell. |
 |
| |
| Meadow Pond |
The
Meadow Pond is located directly behind the Jack and
Engrid Meng Residence and gives visitors a fanciful
place to enjoy moments together, whether strolling
the walking path or resting on the surrounding
benches. Meadow Pond features a large fountain that
brings life to its tranquil water. In addition to
visitors to the Gardens, families and patients can
enjoy the sights and sounds of this unique water
feature from the Residence patio. A planned
Reflection Deck will offer visitors a special place
to pause for a moment and enjoy the fountain and
surrounding beauty. |
| |
| Hillside Pond |
|
The Hillside Pond is fed by the rain waters flowing
through Stone Creek, a riverbed lined with cobble
stone. Trickling water, and the sight of a planned
fountain, will bring peace and calmness to those
passing by. |
